Rachael Ashe’s stunning altered book makes an apt symbol for the themes to be covered in this section, viz: alchemical texts and practice, herbalism, medicine and secrets. See more of Rachael’s altered books at: http://portfolio.rachaelashe.com/123025/946871/altered-books/altered-book-art
I plan to write a series of pieces about Adam McLean’s important Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks collection of alchemical texts which he researches, edits, prints, binds and publishes himself. The books become instant collectors’ items and fetch silly prices on the second-hand market, but their real value is the care with which old, obscure and often unknown texts have been brought to light and placed in the tradition. One such is the Pneumo-Cosmic Manuscript discovered in Glasgow University’s Ferguson collection to which McLean gave new life by sensitively hand-colouring its 52 mysterious zen-like emblems (one reproduced at left). Find the book here and please visit McLean’s website: http://www.alchemywebsite.com/mohs.html
